Community Organizing Program
Our Community Organizing Program stems from recognizing the systemic challenges and barriers faced by Black trans individuals in New Mexico. Historically, Black trans communities have been disproportionately affected by discrimination, violence, and lack of resources. Therefore, our program is rooted in the principles of social justice, equity, and community empowerment. Why: The Community Organizing Program is essential because it provides a platform for Black trans individuals to voice their concerns, share experiences, and collectively address issues that impact their lives. By organizing community meetings, forums, and events, we foster a sense of solidarity, resilience, and activism within the community. Our goal is to advocate for policy changes, challenge systemic injustices, and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for Black trans individuals.
- Organizing grassroots campaigns for policy reform and legislative advocacy.
- Providing leadership development opportunities and training for community organizers.
- Partnering with local organizations, activists, and allies to amplify Black trans voices and promote social change.
- Creating safe spaces for dialogue, education, and collaboration within the community.
HIV/AIDS Support Program
The HIV/AIDS Support Program is born out of the intersectional health disparities and healthcare access challenges faced by Black trans individuals living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Black trans communities are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS due to a complex interplay of factors, including stigma, discrimination, lack of culturally competent care, and barriers to healthcare access. Our program provides comprehensive support, resources, and advocacy to promote health equity, reduce stigma, and improve health outcomes for Black trans individuals living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Why: The HIV/AIDS Support Program is vital because it addresses critical health needs and promotes holistic well-being within Black trans communities. Access to affirming healthcare, prevention education, mental health support, and peer advocacy are essential components of our program. We aim to empower individuals to take control of their health, access quality care, and navigate healthcare systems with dignity and respect.
- Offering HIV testing, counseling, and linkage to care services for individuals at risk or living with HIV/AIDS.
- Providing case management, treatment adherence support, and peer support groups for Black trans individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
- Advocating for healthcare policies that prioritize the needs of Black trans communities, including access to hormone therapy, gender-affirming care, and culturally competent services.
- Collaborating with HIV/AIDS organizations, healthcare providers, and public health agencies to address disparities, promote prevention strategies, and improve health outcomes.
Housing Advocacy Program
The Housing Advocacy Program is driven by the recognition of the housing disparities, discrimination, and homelessness faced by many Black trans individuals. Access to safe, affordable, and affirming housing is a fundamental human right that is often denied or compromised due to systemic barriers and prejudices. Our program advocates for housing justice, equitable policies, and access to resources that ensure housing stability and security for Black trans communities.
Why:
Housing advocacy is critical because it addresses one of the most basic needs and determinants of well-being. Without stable housing, individuals face increased vulnerability to violence, poverty, and health disparities. Our program works towards eliminating housing discrimination, providing housing resources, and advocating for policies that protect the rights of Black trans individuals to live freely and without fear of eviction or discrimination.
- Providing direct assistance, case management, and housing navigation support for individuals facing housing insecurity.
- Advocating for inclusive housing policies, non-discrimination ordinances, and affordable housing initiatives at local and state levels.
- Collaborating with housing authorities, landlords, and community stakeholders to create affirming and accessible housing options.
- Conducting research, data collection, and needs assessments to inform housing advocacy strategies and interventions.
